African Diaspora Association of the Maritimes (ADAM)

The mission of ADAM is to encourage and foster successful participation and integration of the African Canadian Diaspora in the educational, social, political, civic, and economic activities in Nova Scotia and the Maritimes. ADAM’s purpose is to provide services to its members and to network with all levels of government and with other public and private organizations for the benefit of its members and the community at large.

Black Student Advising Centre (BSAC)

Open to all Dalhousie & King’s students of African descent, BSAC offers academic, advocacy, study skills & writing, financial, and cultural supports as well as resource navigation. They offer three Mentorship Programs seeking to connect students of African descent via high school mentoring, peer mentoring/tutoring program, and professional mentorship for networking and relationship building experiences.

Black Cultural Centre for Nova Scotia

Established in 1983, to Protect, Preserve and Promote the history and culture of African Nova Scotians. The centre is a museum and cultural gathering place, where the rich history of Canada’s oldest and longest standing Black communities can be discovered and explored.

Africville Museum

The museum is a place where former residents and their descendants can (re)connect, learn about their history and rebuild a sense of place a pride; a visitor attraction that draws residents and tourists, strengthens the province as a Black Heritage destination, and adds to African Nova Scotian themed attractions; a venue to remember the story of Africville and to recognize its contribution to Canadian and specifically, African diaspora history.

ABSW is a volunteer charitable organization consisting of Black social workers and human service workers throughout the province. They offer educational and community based programs ranging from clinical counselling to professional development. You can connect with ABSW if you’re looking to be connected with culturally appropriate and culturally safe counsellors.

ManTalk

ManTalk is a confidential, emotionally supportive group for male victims of sexual abuse. Meeting on the first and third Wednesday evenings of the month, they are a welcoming and safe space. GBTIQ, African Nova Scotian, Indigenous and other men representing diverse communities are encouraged to join. New members are always welcome!
