DSU ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 

October 12th, 2023, 6:30pm | McInnes Room (2nd floor of Student Union Building) 

The DSU 2023 Annual General Meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 12th at 6:30pm in the McInnes Room! Please bring your student ID with you. Event staff will be greeting attendees at the entrance to confirm their registration status and list them as present for the meeting.

The AGM is an opportunity for all DSU members to come together to hear about the work that the Executive and Council have been doing and are planning for the coming year, and to make decisions about the direction of the Union. All Dalhousie students are members of the DSU and have voting rights at the AGM, so come and have your say!

What is quorum? 

For the AGM to move ahead and for the DSU to make changes, 1% of the student-body must attend and vote at the AGM. 

To help us meet quorum, we're trying something new! Want to win $3k?:

  1. Register for & attend the DSU AGM with your Dal ID card in hand,on Oct. 12th at 6:30pm.

  2. Bring your Friends: Currently we need 213 students in order to meet quorum! Grab as many friends as you can, come get your free pizza and join the meeting.

  3. Stay until the end of AGM to cast your vote. .

We’ll draw from the list of present AGM attendees at the end of the meeting IF QUORUM IS MET!

Any member interested in submitting a motion to the AGM can refer to section 8.6 of the DSU Bylaws for information on the required procedure. Petitions to include a motion on the AGM agenda must be submitted by October 2nd to the Council Chair at dsuchair@dal.ca.

Proposed Bylaw Amendments

The Bylaws govern the Union as a whole, and may be amended at a General Meeting by Special Resolution (2/3 majority vote) with 21 days notice. The current Bylaws were adopted in 2016.

The Proposed Bylaw Ammendments for 2023 are currently pending council approval and will be posted if and when they are approved

Dalhousie University Governance Review

Dalhousie commissioned an external review of university governance which was made public this September.

At the AGM we will be discussing the review and what it says about student representation at the University Board of Governors and Senate. Learn more about Dalhousie’s governance review below.

Past general meeting Minutes

Minutes from 2017-2022 are not available because there were not enough members in attendance at the meetings to constitute quorum, so no decisions were made. These meetings each proceeded as a forum with executive reports, presentation of the audit, and time for questions.
