Dalhousie's Orientation Week runs from Saturday, September 2 to Monday, September 4. These 3 days are all about meeting new people, expanding your comfort zone, getting acquainted with your new community, and having a great time! We’re going to be introducing you to Dalhousie the best way we know how as true maritimers; east coast style! So welcome aboard and get ready to rock the boat!!!
Saturday, September 2
Move In, 9:00am: Get set up and settled in your new home at Dal! Unpack before joining your new housemates in all the fun of O-Week.
Field Party, 12:00pm, Studley Quad: Join us in the Quad for an exciting welcome to Dal! There will be dance offs, music, huge inflatable slides and so much more. There will also be a BBQ, snow-cones, and lots of snacks to keep you from getting too hungry while you’re enjoying all the fun! If you need to cool down, there will a splash zone and lots of fun stations all over the Quad.
Community Meetings, 4:00pm: Head to your Res or The McInnes room in the SUB (for OCUS students) and learn all there is a to know about living in residence or off campus. This is an opportunity to meet your Residence Assistants and Community Assistants and meet others living in your residence or community. You will learn some important rules and also have a lot of fun!
Opening Ceremonies, 7:30pm, Studley Quad: Return to the Quad for the official opening of O-Week. You’ll have a chance to earn some house points, embrace your Tiger Pride and learn about all the excitement to come throughout the week!
Rock the Boat, 8:30pm, Studley Quad: Directly following the Opening Ceremonies, you’ll get a taste of some East Coast music so get ready to dance and sing along to some (soon to be) favourite tunes!

Grawood Sampler, 8:30pm, SUB Grawood: In the Grawood (your campus bar which will be dry during O-Week), we have a lower-key event planned for those who prefer something a little more chill than Rocking the Boat. You’ll get to experience all the great things the Grawood has to offer like Trivia, Lip Sync Battles, Open Mic and much more
After Jam,10:00pm, Studley Quad : Unwind after your first day of O-Week with a chill music jam session, board games, frisbee and lots of other activities on the Quad and around campus! Stick around for some late night snacks.
Sunday, September 3
Dal 101, 8:30am, McCain Arts Building : Explore a fair of campus resources (while eating a delicious pancake breakfast) and then choose your favourite interactive workshops to attend! Will you decide to learn more about “Halifax’s Hidden Treasures” or will you get some tips on how to “Ace Your First Month on Campus”? The choice is yours!
Cheer Off Practice: Get together with your house and prep for your cheer’s big debut! Make sure to fuel up on lunch before showing your Tiger pride!
Cheer Off, 12:30pm, Dalplex: Show your house pride and compete with your most creative songs and cheers. Lots of house point will be awarded for house spirit and energy (and of course for the best cheers)!
Community Event, 2:00pm: UPDATE Beach themed O-Week calls for a day at the beach! Head out to the surrounding coastline and lakeshores to participate in a Halifax wide Beach Clean Up. The beauty of the Atlantic coastline is a source of pride for many Haligonians and keeping our shores clean is important, not just for our eyes, but for our planet as well. Dinner will be included so you have plenty of time to travel to, clean, and enjoy your location!
Sex Talk, 7:00pm, Rebbacca Cohn Auditorium: Halifax’s Venus Envy and Dal will be hosting this educational yet entertaining event. This will be sex ed unlike anything you’ve ever seen before. Be prepared for a little nervous laughter and a lot of questions answered!
Choose Your Own Adventure, 8:30pm, various locations: Get together with your house or grab a few new friends and check our as many activities as you'd like. Tonight's an opportunity to explore your own interests, see different places on campus and try out something new.
Monday, September 4
Faculty O, 9:00am: Each faculty is hosting a unique event to welcome their new students. This is when you’ll learn about where your classes are and what your program is going to be like. You might even meet a classmate who can help you get through first-year psych (no promises)!
MANY FACULTIES HOLD SEPARATE ORIENTATIONS OUTSIDE OF O WEEK! IF THIS IS THE CASE FOR YOU FEEL FREE TO SLEEP IN OR TAKE PART IN ONE OF OUR EARLY MORNING ACTIVITIES!
Minute to Win It, 11:00am, Dalplex: Assemble with your house to take part in minute to win it style games for points! Also, serves as a tiger pride hype up to get you pumped for Dalympics and Art Attack!
Dalympics, 1:00pm, Dalplex and Wickwire Field: Let the games begin! We’ve got volleyball, dodgeball, an inflatable obstacle course, and so much more! You choose which events you want to participate in along with your house. House points will be awarded throughout the day, so the more you participate, the closer you are to the coveted house cup!
Art Attack, 1:00pm, Studley Quad: High energy not your thing? No worries we have you covered with this awesome low-key event. Let out your inner artist with painting, music, and theater games in the Quad and earn some house points in the process!
Surprise Even, 4:00pm, Studley Quad: After an exciting afternoon, cool down at this mysterious surprise event!
Induction, 6:30pm/7:15pm, Rebecca Cohn Auditorium: This is your official welcome into the Dalhousie family! At this event, the top administrators come in to talk to you about what an awesome decision you made in coming to Dal! You’ll also be entertained and receive some cool Dal swag.
Sports Game, 8:15pm, Wickwire Field: Get decked in your black and gold to come out and cheer on your Dalhousie Tigers! After a fun-filled few days of meeting new people, learning about Halifax, and getting acquainted with your new school, this is the perfect opportunity to let your stripes show!

Find your Centre, 8:30pm, SUB: Take some time to reflect on the past three days and the amazing adventure that is yet to come. We’ll be facilitating some workshops with a focus on mindfulness, meditation, and general wellness.
