Please note: Society and Member Grant applications are now closed for the remainder of the 2019/2020 academic year. Please see dsu.ca/covid-19 for the latest updates on our operations.
DSU funding may be awarded on a needs-bases basis for eligible member and society applicants.
Each year the DSU awards more than $50,000 in grants to support various students and student societies on campus. Grants are administered by the Grants Committee, a committee of your DSU Council, and are awarded to students and societies who qualify for a grant as per the Union's policies.
Society grants are available to help eligible societies defray operational costs, as well as help plan, promote and participate in endeavours that will be beneficial for the Dalhousie community. Each society is eligible to receive up to $1000 in Grant funding per year (typically restricted to $500/semester).
Member grants are available to help students attend conferences, special events/workshops, or to cover some of the costs of extracurricular events related to a student's academics (though Grants are not administered to help fund tuition related expenses). Member grants are available for up to $100 per person.
Sponsorship is available to members of the Dalhousie Student Union (Dalhousie students who pay student union fees) to support student-led events and initiatives that benefit our members. The Union will award successful student applicants with funding to help offset the costs of an event/activity in return for publicized involvement of the DSU.
Accommodation grants are intended to help societies wishing to provide accommodations for students who may experience barriers in attending or participating in society hosted events, or for individual students who require accommodations specifically to participate in union activities.
Student Accessibility Bursaries are open to all Dalhousie students with disabilities. We recognize that there are additional financial burdens associated with having a disability, and these bursary are provided to help defray these costs. Please note: The deadline for regular Accessibility Bursaries has closed as of March 25th, 2020.
COVID-19 Bursaries are open to all Dalhousie students that have had new or exacerbated physical, medical, mental health, and financial needs due to COVID-19. This is a temporary expansion of the Student Accessibility Fund Committee guidelines to provide support for students, especially those with disabilities, who are immunocompromised, and who are part of one or more other marginalized communities through this difficult time. A seperate application form will be linked below. These bursaries have not yet officially opened for applications.
International Student Emergency Fund Bursary: Emergency financial assistance is available for international students experiencing financial difficulty due to unforeseen circumstances. Funds are limited so there is no guarantee that all eligible applicants will receive assistance.
