What is the Student Accessibility Bursary?

Every year, the DSU collects money for every student to be included as part of the Student Accessibility Fund. This fund is used to provide programming and bursaries for accessibility issues and people with different accessibility needs. Bursaries of up to $1000 are available each year, which are open to all Dalhousie students with disabilities. We recognize that there are additional financial burdens associated with having a disability, and this bursary are provided to help defray these costs.

All Dalhousie students are encouraged to apply, regardless of whether or not they have a student loan, or receive outside funding.

Complete Applications must include:

  • Written or recorded personal statement describing the type of accessibility issue you are experiencing and how a bursary could help improve your experience (academic or otherwise) as a student on campus.
  • Documentation of your registration with either the Advising and Access Services Centre or your provincial government
  • Documentation of student loans or student lines of credit, etc. If this does not apply, please provide an explanation of why you still think your financial needs meet the bursary requirments.
  • Documentation of costs related to your accessibility issue. This may include emails, quotes, invoices or receipts for special equipment, software, transportation, tutoring, medication, etc.

The purpose of this bursary is not to defray the costs of tuition. Applications made on that basis will be disqualified.

If you are having trouble with the online application email: dsumemberservices@dsu.ca or vpi@dsu.ca you can also apply offline by downloading the Accessibility Application Form
